BRF Annual Discovery Dinner Raises Over $728,000 for Brain Research and Education

Over 300 supporters attended the Brain Research Foundation's Annual Discovery Dinner on November 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.  The dinner raised over $728,000 for brain research and education. The event was co-hosted by Suzanne Kopp-Moskow and Michael Moskow, Linda and Tom Heagy and Millie Rosenbloom Simon and John Simon. Virginia and Norman Bobins and Aon Corporation were honored with Frederick A. Gibbs Discovery Awards. The Bobins received the Philanthropic Leadership Award, recognizing their many years' commitment and outstanding fundraising efforts for neurological research.  Aon Corporation received the Discovery Award for Community Service for its commitment to service and a firm-wide culture of giving back. The Brain Research Foundation also announced a $50,000 grant to the Sports Legacy Institute to fund an initiative designed to improve the Chicago Public Schools' ability to respond to sports-related head injuries.

Executive Director Terre Constantine, Ph.D. led a panel discussion made up of BRF neuroscience research grantees, who, because of funding from the organization, have made amazing strides towards understanding epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia.

The Brain Research Foundation funds innovative neuroscience research that expands understanding of how the brain works, and provides educational programs for researchers, families struggling with debilitating brain disorders and the general public. The Foundation plays a critical role in the scientific process by funding seed grants that are the starting blocks to discovery, allowing scientists to prove the feasibility of their projects and produce data that will make them eligible for larger government and institutional funds.
