Merger Announcement
BRAIN RESEARCH FOUNDATION BROADENS APPEAL, EXPANDS RELATIONSHIPS WITH RESEARCHERS WORKING TO UNRAVEL THE MYSTERIES OF BRAIN DISORDERS
Merges with Children’s Brain Research Foundation, establishes new connections with prominent Chicago academic medical centers and launches new brand and Web site – www.theBRF.org
CHICAGO, January 11, 2010 – The Brain Research Foundation (BRF), the oldest organization dedicated to funding research across the entire spectrum of brain disorders, today announced its merger with the Children’s Brain Research Foundation (CBRF), an action aimed at bolstering the BRF’s already strong focus on pediatric brain health and research.
The combined organization is now even more enthusiastic about accelerating new discoveries in brain research, according to Norman Bobins, vice president of the Board of Trustees for the BRF. “We will incorporate the vision of the CBRF by increasing our emphasis on the needs of helping children who are living with brain disorders. The BRF will continue to support research and important educational programs like the well received anti-bullying program taught in several Chicago Public Schools.”
In addition to the integration, the BRF recently completed several other strategic moves, including forging research relationships with all of Chicago’s major academic medical centers, which will allow the organization to provide seed grants to a wider range of innovative research projects. The grants will fund groundbreaking basic research and innovative clinical projects in areas such as autism, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, depression, and schizophrenia. This support is crucial to accelerating discoveries and finding cures for neurological disorders, according to Nathan Hansen, president of the Board of Trustees for the BRF. “We play a unique role in Chicago and beyond by awarding grants that fill critical funding gaps,” said Hansen. Without assistance from the BRF, many studies would be delayed or might never have gotten underway. The results from these studies provide new scientific knowledge to researchers worldwide. This is where tomorrow’s breakthroughs in unraveling the mysteries of brain disorders begin.”
Brain Research Foundation Unveils New Web site and Brand
The Brain Research Foundation also recently refreshed its brand and launched a new Web site intended to help the BRF connect with a wider audience, including individuals seeking information about brain disorders, researchers, peer organizations, prospective donors and the general public.
The BRF’s new Web site (www.theBRF.org) was redesigned to serve as an inviting center for all those who seek information about cutting-edge brain research, brain disorders, the Brain Research Foundation and success stories in brain science.
