David Olson is the co-head of the financial institutions group at Piper Jaffray. He has extensive experience in investment banking and private equity.

Previously, Olson was chairman and chief executive officer of River Branch Holdings LLC. Previously, he was a partner of The Yucaipa Companies, an investment firm with holdings in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Olson was a founder of Primus Pacific Partners, a private equity firm that invests in financial services companies in Asia. He was previously the chairman and chief executive officer of Guggenheim Merchant Banking, the private equity arm of Guggenheim Capital in New York and Chicago.

Olson came to Guggenheim with over 25 years of experience on Wall Street in management positions. He was Credit Suisse First Boston’s chairman of investment banking for the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to CSFB’s merger with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, he held a number of senior executive positions at DLJ, most recently serving as chairman and chief executive officer of the firm’s Asia-Pacific region. During the 1990’s, he was co-head of DLJ’s financial institutions group and the firm’s Chicago investment banking office.

Olson holds a Juris doctorate from Northwestern University School of Law, where he is a Life Trustee, and a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, where he is a Trustee Emeritus. Additionally, Olson is a board member for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
